Update: New ‘Open With Kami’ Button and Improved Kami Chrome Extension

We’ve been hard at work for the past few months on a major rewrite of our Chrome Extension to improve the performance and reliability of it while also improving how the extension works when opening files. This is a big change, and addresses the biggest complaint we hear from districts trying to roll out the Kami Extension: “why has Kami hijacked my PDFs”. Since the Chrome Extension is critical to deployments, if you notice anything weird or unusual about the way Kami integrates or works with Chromebooks or other devices, let us know. New ‘Open With Kami’ Button With the new extension, you will now be able to have PDF files…

Solving classroom paper management problems with Kami

How many hours per week do you spend preparing and printing documents only to watch them go straight to the bottom of students’ backpacks? For Jill Nation this problem was all too familiar.  A Biology and Environmental Science teacher at Cathedral City High School, Jill found paper management incredibly frustrating. “You end up with so many papers all over your desk, and then you hand them back to the students, and they still end up on your floor.” Having to make large numbers of copies every time she found a PDF she wanted to use was tedious and wasteful.  Paper management is a hassle for everyone, and like Jill many…

Follow her on Twitter @MrsDPearsall I recently became a Kami Hero (basically a bonafide Kami user), and I’m excited to share just a few of the marvelous things it has to offer.  I don’t really even remember when or how I first ran into Kami, but I find myself using or recommending someone else use it at least a few times a week.  Below are just some of my favorite uses of…

    Update: Introducing Speech to Text

Today, we are excited to announce the release of our Speech-to-Text tool. Creating the Speech-to-Text tool is a project that we have been working on for some time, and we have had it in BETA for the last month. We realized that this tool was needed when we witnessed the frustrations that many ELA students have with typing, which keeps them behind. The purpose of this tool is to allow all students to keep up with their classmates, regardless of their level of typing skill. With this tool, anyone with a Kami Teacher Plan, Kami Schools Account, or Kami Work Account can click the text tool, followed by the microphone…
