Google Classroom Calendar Integration is Live and Here’s How to Use It

Since the launch of Google Classroom in 2014, numerous useful features have been added to help improve the education process for both teachers and students. The calendar integration, which came in 2015, was an important update in the Google classroom. Many teachers have commended the feature. Read on to know why.

Calendar Integration

Google Calendar is a time-management app that allows you to keep track of events in your life. It enables you to create and edit events and receive notifications when the events you scheduled are coming. Now, the efficiency afforded by Google Calendar is in the Google classroom! Everyone will be able to save time and be organized with this integration. You can add assignments, deadlines, meetings, exams, and other class events without hassle. With the integration, you can view your events from within the Classroom or the Calendar.

How Does the Calendar Integration Work?

A calendar will be created for each of your classes in Google Classroom. Assignments and due dates are automatically added to the calendar. But teachers can still manually add schedules of other class activities. The full integration gives you the ability to share the new calendars with students, parents, and Google sites.

If you have not made use of this great update yet, here is how to get started:

First, go to Google Classroom and select a class.

Second, click the About tab to see how the new feature looks. Under the tab, you will see that Calendar options are now listed on the bottom part. By clicking the View in Classroom option, you will be able to see a calendar of a particular classroom. You can view your class schedule individually, or all your class schedules at once by clicking Calendar in the menu bar at the upper left portion of the screen.

Third, create a new assignment. When you do this, a calendar is automatically created for that class with the assignments you inputted already on it. It will also automatically create a matching entry in your Google calendar, indicating the class section, date, and other details. Once you add a new assignment, the Open in Google Calendar option will appear under the About tab. Whether you open Google Calendar or Google classroom, you will be able to see the assignments you added, as well as their due date.

Finally, modify the sharing and notification settings in the drop-down list box in your calendar. With these settings, you can control who can see it. You have the option to make it public, share it with anyone, or embed it on a Google site. Instruct your students to add your calendar to their accounts and devices for them to access it easily. They can add it to their account by clicking the +Google Calendar button found at the bottom right part of your calendar. They also have the ability to modify the notification settings. If they want, they can turn on notifications so that they will be alerted either by e-mail or text message when you update or make changes to your calendar.

Through the calendar integration, Google has shown that it is serious in creating updates for promoting classroom organization, transparency, and accessibility. With proficient features like this, teachers and students will have no more excuses. Clearly, this can yield to a more productive Classroom experience.
